Kilkenny County Council, in collaboration with Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership and Cycling Ireland, is thrilled to announce the return of Bike Week 2025, taking place from May 10th to May 18th. This week-long celebration offers a diverse range of events suitable for all ages and abilities, and all activities are free!
This year, Kilkenny County Council will host Bike Fest, family fun days filled with cycling-related activities, including obstacle courses, balance bikes, arts and crafts, and story-telling in Ferrybank Neighbourhood Park on Sunday the 11th of May, The Moate Field in Callan on Wednesday the 14th of May, and Dunmore Biodiversity Park on Sunday the 18th of May. We have also teamed up with Saddle Up for Down Syndrome to provide cycling activities for all ages in Danesfort GAA Club on Sunday, the 11th of May.

For those who want to experience the thrill of off-road cycling, there is a host of introductory and intermediate mountain biking sessions led by certified instructors, Roisin Hickey and Aisling Cullen, in Castlecomer Discovery Park on Saturday, the 10th of May. Sessions are open to all and all equipment is provided.
A selection of leisure spins will also take place across the County. Tuesday the 13th sees the first of the lunchtime cycles with a choice of distances, departing from The Parade at 12p.m. On Wednesday the 14th of May, a Slow Roll will take place around Callan, leaving from the Moate Field at 5:15p.m. On Thursday the 15th, our local community Bike Ride leader, Brian Fennelly, leads a spin to Stoneyford at 10a.m. and a leisure spin leaves the City at 10a.m. on Sunday the 18th to Dunmore Biodiversity Park. On Saturday,17th of May, a cycle will take place on the South East Greenway, departing form the Rosbercon car park at 10a.m. for a 12k cycle or 10:15a.m. for a 6km family cycle. For something a little different, on Friday the 16th, a treasure hunt on bikes will take place in the Eastern Environs of Kilkenny City. The meeting point is Newpark Medical Centre at 6p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
There is an opportunity for adults to refresh their skills and get some tips on cycling in the City on Tuesday, the 13th, meeting at 7p.m. in Sullivan’s on John St. and once again, bikes can be provided on request.
Caitriona Corr, Cycling Officer with Kilkenny County Council, is delighted with the programme of events for Bike Week. She stated that our local schools have also been participating in a varied programme leading up to Bike Week including learn to cycle courses, mountain biking, and bike maintenance workshops, ensuring that children across Kilkenny experience the thrill and independence of cycling, whilst gaining valuable skills for the future.
