“MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre was proud to continue their longstanding tradition of hosting the Savour Young Food Producer’s Market on Saturday 28th October 2023. This one-day market showcased the culinary skills and delightful inventions of young chefs, bakers, and entrepreneurs from first to sixth year. There were 3 judges on the day: Miss Kilkenny 2023; Caitlin Raven, Orlaith Fallon the 2022 overall winner of the Young Food Producers Market, & Paul O Keefe, owner of The Pantry at MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre.

While every student was a winner, there were several prizes on offer in the categories of: Best Taste, Best Display and the Overall Winner.

The winners of the “Best Taste” Category were Cate Ni Chathain, Emma Whelan, Ellie Brett and Anna Purcell Duff with their delicious array of brownies. The winners of the Best presentation were Lauren Daly and Caoimhe Ormond who went for an amazing Halloween themed display that wowed the judges. And the overall Winner was Caragh Ni Dhomhnaill who had an amazing array of cupcakes and cookies that all of the judges enjoyed.

Centre Manager Marion Acreman spoke of her excitement regarding the annual event:

“Our ethos of allowing young entrepreneurs test the market environment by showcasing at the shopping centre fits well into this vibrant exciting event as part of the fantastic Savour Kilkenny Food Festival and again this year the team at MacDonagh Junction were hugely impressed with the high standard delivered by our young food producers, we predict a bright culinary future for Kilkenny as they develop their talents in the years ahead”.
