This summer, Kilkenny City comes alive again during midweek evenings as six attractions throw their doors open late for the Six after 6 – Summer Cultural Series.
Featuring 36 free and ticketed events from June to early September, the Six after 6 – Summer Cultural Series will bring many of the city’s great attractions alive in the evening for locals and visitors alike across the summer.
Enjoy memorable events from craft workshops at Medieval Mile Museum, fusion music sessions at The Smithwick’s Experience, garden tours with tea at Butler House & Garden, to Ceoltóirí concerts at Saint Canice’s Cathedral, themed workshops and artist talks at Butler Gallery, and intimate traditional music sessions at Rothe House.
Mayor of Kilkenny City Municipal District, Cllr. John Coonan, commented “Kilkenny County Council is again pleased to support the Six After 6 – Summer Cultural Series for the late opening of many of our top tourist attractions in Kilkenny City, offering a diverse range of events from garden tours to music sessions, and artist workshops. This collaboration underpins our commitment to showcasing our city after 6pm for locals and visitors alike, with a range of varied and inclusive events to suit all interests.”
Night Time Economy Advisor for Kilkenny City, Feargus Dunne, remarked, “I’m delighted to see the launch of a new Six After 6 – Summer Cultural Series in Kilkenny City this summer, with many of our amazing heritage and tourism attractions opening their doors later midweek to host a range of exciting events. We will be promoting the Six After 6 campaign across the Fáilte Ireland, Visit Kilkenny and the Kilkenny App platforms throughout the summer to increase access to our cultural heritage in the city for new audiences. The collaborative efforts of the six tourist attractions to stay open later help to further strengthen our night time economy work in the city.”
The first Six After 6 event takes place on Thursday 4th June and the series of events will continue until Friday 4th September. Full calendar of events is available on www.visitkilkenny.ie and The Kilkenny App. Bookings, if required, can be made directly through the website or booking link of the participating tourist attraction.
The Six after 6 – Summer Cultural Series is supported by Kilkenny County Council, Fáilte Ireland – Ireland’s Ancient East, and the Kilkenny Night Time Economy Pilot.
