George Vaughan is one of Ireland’s most respected and accomplished artists, with a career spanning several decades and a body of work that has earned recognition both nationally and internationally. Born in Limerick in 1941, he spent his early years in the city before leaving at the age of twenty-seven to pursue new artistic opportunities.
His formal training began at the Limerick School of Art before continuing at the National College of Art in Dublin. Vaughan further broadened his artistic education at the renowned Fischerkoesen Film Studios in Germany, where he gained valuable experience in visual arts and animation techniques. He also studied at the College of Music in Dublin, reflecting his wide-ranging creative interests.
Throughout his distinguished career, George Vaughan has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions across Ireland, earning a reputation for work that is both technically accomplished and deeply expressive. His paintings are admired for their distinctive style, capturing landscapes, people and everyday life with sensitivity and imagination.
Beyond his own artistic practice, Vaughan made a significant contribution to arts education. For almost thirty years he served as Course Director of Grennan Mill Craft School in Thomastown, where he inspired and mentored generations of emerging artists. His influence on the creative community in Kilkenny and beyond has been immense.
Now living in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, George Vaughan continues to paint and exhibit. His work is represented in many prestigious public collections, including the Arts Council of Ireland, the Office of Public Works, Butler Gallery and Limerick City Gallery, as well as numerous private collections throughout Ireland and overseas, securing his place among Ireland’s most distinguished contemporary art
George Vaughan Exhibition opened in the Jerpoint Glass Attic Gallery on Saturday 1st August and runs daily from10am to 5pm (Sundays 12pm to 5pm) for the month of August.
