The Duiske Players Drama group are putting the finishing touches to their spring production. This year the group have decided to stage an evening of comedy and drama, in the form of two one act plays and have picked two ‘crackers’ for their spring season. Group stalwart Peter Prendergast will direct both plays: “Dead Man’s Bells” by Méabh de Brún and “Last Tango in Little Grimley” by David Tristram.
“Dead Man’s Bells” is a play about three sisters dealing with rural inheritance, intense sibling rivalry, and deep-seated family secrets. The plot follows the sisters as their lies unravel, exploring themes of misdeeds, consequences, and a desperate struggle to maintain a veneer of normalcy. Appearing as these three sisters are Edel Bolger, Rebecca Murphy and Caroline Cotter.
“Last Tango in Little Grimley” is about a struggling amateur dramatic society with only four members left. Facing eviction, Chairman Gordon decides to boost flagging ticket sales by introducing “sex” into their plays, leading to chaotic and hilarious rehearsals for a show the village will never forget. John Meaney, Nathan Dunne, Margaret Whelan and group newcomer Naomi Coady will be injecting all of the fun and frolics into this production, under Peter’s direction.
As usual the group members will all be involved in the various other tasks with Eamonn Doherty & Liz O’ Neill looking after the stage management, Bonnie Prendergast & Stas Bolger looking after continuity and Nancy Moloney & Bonnie Prendergast will lead the front of house team, with all other members rowing is as required with the various other tasks.
Speaking last week to this paper group chairperson Edel Bolger said “ we are really excited with this year’s format and with showcasing both plays to our loyal audiences, who are in for a real treat”. She went onto say “As always we love welcoming new members, and this year are thrilled to announce Naomi Coady’s debut with us and know that her performance will be very memorable”. This year’s director Peter Prendergast added “it has been a great pleasure to work with both casts on two excellent scripts, and we are now looking forward to bringing them to full fruition.
Feekie O’Brien is in charge of lights and sound.
Both plays will be performed at 8pm nightly in the Abbey Hall in Graignamanagh on Friday 27th and Sunday 29th March. Tickets are €12 and will be available on the door on a first come, first served basis.
