Kilkenny Helping the Homeless is a registered charity that offers food, clothes, household items and personal items to those in need in Kilkenny and Dublin. They travel up to Dublin every second Saturday with volunteers and distribute food on Grafton Street. Mary Pierce and her husband Brendan said that they usually begin preparing for this on Wednesdays. The weeks they’re not going up to Dublin, they do food banks for locals in Kilkenny. Another member of the team is Jackie Cullen, who recently told the Observer that the support for those in need is never-ending.
“It is not our job to say what the problem is,” said Jackie, “but there is a huge amount of people who need support, and Kilkenny Helping the Homeless try to do our bit to assist.”
Last week, at St Mary’s Day Care Centre on Haugney Green, a coffee morning was held and a great number of people turned out in support.
“People are wonderful,” said a very grateful Mary Pierce. “You just have to look around at the coffee morning and see how many people give freely of their time to support our charity.”
Brendan Pierce was busy serving tea and buns but took time out to thank all who supported the coffee morning and thanked Eamon Corcoran, chair of the day care centre, for allowing the hall to be used.
