Young Kilkenny artist, Aurianna Hanlon – a 16-year old student at Loreto Secondary School – has recently returned from Japan after attending the 27th International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo at which her prize-winning entry from this year’s 72nd Texaco Children’s Art Competition was displayed.
Travelling at the invitation of the International Foundation for Arts and Culture (IFAC), Aurianna attended the opening of the exhibition which took place at one of Japan’s most prestigious galleries – The National Arts Centre – in Tokyo.
At the event, described as a ‘global showcase for the world’s best young artistic talent’, Aurianna’s work – entitled ‘Falling Up’ – was exhibited alongside the top 500 artworks selected from up to 15,000 works submitted by students worldwide aged from 15 to 18 years.
Other winning artworks displayed from this year’s Texaco Children’s Art Competition were ‘Sightseeing’ by Cavan student, Anna Towell (age 18), who attends the University of Galway; ‘Melting in Malta 2018’ by Down student, Lucy Bishop (16), from Bangor Academy & Sixth Form College; and ‘The Amazing Tinks’ by Limerick student, Claire O’Malley (16), from Catherine McAuley School, Limerick.
