On Saturday, the 5th of September, the Tullaroan Camogie Club proudly hosted the Trish Maher Memorial Tournament for Under-13 camogie teams. This special event was held in memory of Trish Maher, and it brought together clubs, families, and supporters for what turned out to be a fantastic day of sport, friendship, and community spirit.
The competition attracted eight teams, who all lined out full of energy and determination at the Tullaroan GAA grounds. Representing their clubs with pride were:
- Tullaroan
- Myshall
- Urlingford
- Danesfort
- Dicksboro
- Castlecomer
- St Martins
- Thomastown
Every match was hotly contested, with the young players displaying not only their growing skills but also great teamwork, heart, and spirit. The standard of camogie on show was a real credit to the clubs, mentors, and families behind these girls. From the very first throw-in to the final whistle of the last match, each team gave it everything they had, battling right to the bitter end.
Huge congratulations to Thomastown, who claimed victory in the Shield Final. The girls produced some excellent camogie throughout the tournament and saved their best for the final, showing great skill, teamwork, determination and fighting spirit to secure a well-deserved win.
Congratulations also go to St Martins, winners of the Cup Final. In a closely contested match, the girls showed great determination and skill to secure victory. It was an exciting game of camogie, with the result uncertain until the final whistle.
Kate Kelly of Danesfort was named Player of the Tournament, sponsored by John O’Flynn, after an outstanding series of performances throughout the competition this year.
The atmosphere was wonderful as families, friends and supporters gathered for a memorable day of sport and community, helped by lovely weather. It was a fitting tribute to Trish Maher and would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the many volunteers, sponsors and supporters involved.
The Maher family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their kindness, generosity and support. Special thanks to Tullaroan Camogie and Hurling Club for the use of the pitches and to referees Ciara Murphy, Vivien Holmes, Richie Holland, Emma Walsh, Miriam Walsh and Brendan Cahill.
