Congratulations to Abby Cunningham, a talented member of Kilkenny Swimming Club, who achieved an outstanding result while representing Ireland at the Junior Life Saving Competition held in Rossnowlagh, County Donegal, on September 5th and 6th.
Abby produced a superb performance at the national level, returning home with an impressive haul of two silver and two bronze medals. Her achievement is all the more remarkable given the difficult conditions faced by the competitors, with strong winds and challenging sea conditions making the events particularly demanding.
Competing in life saving requires much more than swimming ability. Participants need a high level of fitness, strength, water confidence, determination and the ability to remain focused and composed in difficult circumstances. Abby demonstrated all of these qualities throughout the competition.
Representing Ireland is a significant achievement in itself and is a wonderful recognition of the hard work and commitment Abby has put into her swimming and lifesaving activities. To then come away with four medals makes her success even more noteworthy.
Abby is currently a Leaving Certificate student at Presentation School, Kilkenny, and is balancing the demands of her studies with the considerable training required to compete at this level.
Her success is a great source of pride for her family, Kilkenny Swimming Club, Presentation School and the wider Kilkenny community. Everyone will wish Abby continued success in both her sporting career and her studies.
