Our Oliver was a mighty hurling man

A TALENTED son of Kilkenny who won All-Ireland senior hurling medals with Wexford and his native county has passed away.

Oliver Gough, a superbly skilful player with a brilliant engine and a powerful strike on the sliotar won titles with the Wexicans in 1955 and ’56 and went on to complete a commendable hat-trick when he won the Liam MacCarthy with Kilkenny in 1963.

The game of hurling was one of his great loves but he was equally adept at golf and was a brilliant amateur.
