Unfortunately, Kilkenny Intermediates suffered their second defeat in the Very League Division 2B game against neighbours Wexford played in Graiguenamanagh last Saturday
Grace Roche opened the scoring with a point from play for Wexford in the first minute, Aisling Prendergast equalised for Kilkenny with a point from play in the 2nd minute
Ellen Gunner tagged on a pointed free for Kilkenny before Afton Grace fired to the net after minutes to put the hosts 1-2 to 0-1 ahead
Wexford hit the next three points through Emer Hunt, Caoimhe Byrne (f) and Lisa Firman to reduce arrears to just a single point. Caroline Kennedy and Caoimhe Byrne (f) traded points, before Grace Donovan added a point for Wexford which was sandwiched between two pointed frees from Ellen Gunner for Kilkenny
With 31 minutes elapsed in Graiguenamanagh, Lisa Firman struck for Wexford’s opening goal. A massive turning point before the break, as Wexford marginally took a 1-6 to 1-5 lead to the break
On the resumption of play, substitute Riona Crowley was quick to level matters. Caoimhe Byrne pulled the strings for Wexford adding two points from frees. Ellen Gunner fired over a point from play for the stripey women
Emer Hunt had her first goal in the 57th minute for Wexford, which moved them 2-8 to 1-7 clear. A pointed free from Grace Roche extended the lead. Ciara Foskin pointed for Kilkenny to narrow the gap to four, before Emer Hunt got in for her second goal right at the death to leave the final score 3-9 to 1-8 in favour of the Slaneysiders
