Kilkenny’s very first MAYhem festival is in full swing! ‘The Road to Cat Laughs’ sees an unprecedented 30 shows take place over 28 nights in the Marble City, with comedy every single night for the month of May. It also offers a unique opportunity to catch some of the biggest names in comedy strut their stuff in the most intimate of spaces.
Week 1 and 2 have seen a string of packed-out shows, with the likes of Brennan Reece, Barry Murphy, David O’Doherty, Josh Jones, Evaldas Karosas, Sinéad Culbert and Hannah Platt (to name but a few) taking to the stage at some of Kilkenny’s finest venues, including Billy Byrne’s, Cleere’s, The Pembroke Hotel, The Hole in the Wall and The Home Rule Club.
As we wind up for another week of wall to wall laughs, let’s take a quick look at some upcoming acts and what to expect.
Wednesday 13th at Billy Byrne’s features Susie McCabe and Dan Tiernan in a double-bill. Award-winning comics, festival favourites, and two of Britain’s sharpest stand-ups. Show starts at 7.30pm.
Thursday 14th sees Dan Tiernan take over Cleere’s Theatre for a solo show. Edinburgh-nominated, internationally acclaimed, and “raucously entertaining” (The Guardian). Expect relentless laughs from 7.30pm.
An All-Star lineup features on Friday 15th at The Pembroke hotel, with Chris Kent, Ger Staunton, Laura Lexx, Alana Jackson and Kevin Gildea sharing the stage for the first 5-piece lineup of the festival. Don’t miss out. Tickets are €22 and available now. Show starts at 8pm.
Saturday 16th presents another opportunity to see 4 of the 5 from Friday night, with Chris Kent on his merry way. Kevin, Ger, Laura and Alana are set to keep the ship sailing at the rate of knots into high seas or perhaps muddy waters? Show starts at 8pm.
Laura Lexx is award-winning comedian writer actor with sharp wit stage presence.
Alana Jackson is Glasgow-born stand-up comedian and actor, Funny winner 2024 competition.

Monday 18th May Morgan Rees joined by Kim Blythe at Cleere’s, rising Scottish comedian from Glasgow, show continues live performance.
