Kilmoganny ( Cill Mocheana) is a place rooted in history. That it is a beautiful place to visit is a bonus. St Mocheana’s church was attached to Kells priory of Kells at an early date. It was dedicated to St Eoghan and the present RC church is dedicated to this saint also. A Protestant church was erected on its site in the 19th century and a pattern was held there in August.
And so, no surprise that a festival will take place in the beautiful village of Kilmoganny which nestles north of the range of hills which forms the watershed between the rivers Nore and Suir.
The festival begins at 5.30 on Sat evening with the Launch of the Walkathon.(walk in memory of a loved one). This will take place at Kilmoganny GAA walkway and continues throughout the night until 1pm next day.
There will be a very popular event that evening at 6pm when a Camogie Blitz will take place.
And if the children are looking to get involved , then fear not. A ‘Kids’ Disco will take place .All are welcome welcome. And do not worry as there will be plenty of stalls there to keep you occupied. And before you ask, yes, and parking will be available.
On Sunday, why not kick of your morning with a full Irish breakfast. The breakfast, will be guaranteed to get you off to a nutritional start , complemented by home made brown and white soda bread. All this food will be produced by the local ladies and prepared in St Eoghan’s centre . And just to top it off, breakfast will be served the Dunamaggin hurlers. A special concession price will be available for families.
Music is the name of the game on Sunday with a Gart Brooks tribute act taking to the stage at 2.pm.
Then from 3pm Declan Nerney will take over, no doubt giving his usual and splendid mix of music . And all with dance floor and seating!
Declan was born in the heart of Ireland in Drumlish Co Longford, at a unique period of time in the music scene worldwide. A revolution in rock and pop brought us The Beatles, Elvis, and the Rolling Stones, while here in Ireland the magnificent showband boom was about to explode. Declan was being heavily influenced by these greats and indeed was getting the rare opportunity to see most of the top showbands appear in his native town of Drumlish. He would cajole his mother into seeing Joe Dolan, Big Tom, Philomena Begley, The Capital Showband, and many more perform when they appeared at the marquee. From his vantage point close to the stage, he would absorb every move made by the guitarist in the bands, watching his fingers slide along the strings, hoping that one day he might be up there performing just like Dan O’Hara or Seamus McMahon. Declans stage show is like no other and definitely not to be missed.
Then at Dunphy’s lounge enjoy a Barbeque before for an hilarious comedy called’ Love Ireland’, written by Lorainne Moore and Aoife O’Neill. The show begins at 8pm and the package includes Barbequue , show , band and DJ. All for €15.
To wrap up proceedings prepare yourself for an excellent band `Millemium` followed by DJ and Disco.
The festival in Kilmoganny takes place on the 1st and 2nd August.
