Kilkenny Floodlit Football Cup and Shield Final

OSUnited winners of the Kilkenny floodlit football league

Kilkenny Floodlit Soccer League Summer Tournament Finals were played in Loreto on Monday evening and spectators were treated to two great games.
The Cup Final was contested between last years League winners Glendine FC and OS Utd.
OS got off to a great start in this game when Mark Flynn outjumped the Glendine goalkeeper to head his side in to the lead after only seven minutes. Full back Damien McCormack doubled the OS lead with a neatly taken goal in the 20th minute.
The first half was end to end stuff with lots of skill on display from both sides and Glendine edged their way back in to the game when David Grogan scored in the 27th minute to leave the score 2-1 to OS at the half time break.
Glendine tired in the 2nd half and victory was sealed for OS with 10 minutes remaining when Eoin McCormack gave keeper Darren Carroll no chance with a brilliant strike from outside the penalty area to give OS a 3-1 lead which they never relinquished.
The Shield Final was won by Gargan and Sons who beat Cave Utd on a 4-1 scoreline. Billy McCormack opened the scoring with a neat header in the 10th minute. Ger Hayes bagged two goals and Tom Collins put the game out of reach for the Cavemen when he made it 4-0 with 10 minutes remaining. Tom Morrissey Got a consolation goal for Cave when he scored in the 55th minute to leave the final score 4-1 to Gargan and Sons.
Winner and runner up trophies in both competitions were presented by the Tournament sponsor John Dalton of Daltons Chancellor Mills Kilkenny.
