Get your running shoes on – Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile run is just around the corner


Kilkenny City Harriers bring you Ireland’s Medieval Mile Run on December 1st, in association with Yulefest Kilkenny.

Open to all levels, the run takes place through Kilkenny city and along Kilkenny’s famous Medieval Mile. With twinkling Christmas lights, a live DJ and a Parade finish, a festive atmosphere is guaranteed!

Runners can expect a fast course, crossing over St Francis Abbey bridge, up Irishtown, through High Street to a lively finish at Kilkenny Castle. With prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for males and females, 1st male and female junior and a bonus for first male home under four minutes and female home under 4.35 minutes.

With two events, including a chipped timing and free event, the run has something for those looking to break the four-minute mile barrier, to those out for a stroll with the family! Registration for both events is required. Find out more at www.yulefestkilkenny.ie

Speaking about the event, John Maye of Kilkenny City Harriers, said:

“The Medieval Mile run is the traditional Christmas opener for runners and families and takes participants through the night-lit medieval streets. Kilkenny City Harriers is looking forward to welcoming families, runners and walkers on Friday 1st December.”

Speaking about the event Tim Butler, Director of Services for Kilkenny County Council, who has responsibility for Yulefest, said:

“We are delighted to work once again with Kilkenny City Harriers who celebrate a milestone 70th birthday this year. Their Medieval Míle run is part of our very exciting range of Yulefest events. It’s alway a great occasion both for runners, looking to achieve milestones, and also for the family as an event to come together get some exercise have fun and begin to celebrate the festive season.”
