There was a fantastic atmosphere in Freshford on Bank holiday weekend as Freshford Town AFC officially opened its new all-weather training facility following more than three years of planning and development.
The event attracted a large attendance from across the local community, with club members, players, parents, supporters and invited guests gathering to celebrate a significant milestone in the club’s ongoing growth.
Former Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan and Kilkenny TD Peter “Chap” Cleere were on hand to officially open the facility.
The day offered something for all ages, with football activities, a penalty shootout competition, bouncy castles and family entertainment creating a vibrant community atmosphere. Irish freestyle football champion Conor Reynolds gave live demonstration of his skills while Glenn whelhan gave training workshop to all age groups , while Republic of Ireland mascot Macul proved hugely popular with younger supporters.
Speaking on the day, Freshford Town AFC Chairman Brian Meagher described the opening as a proud moment for the club.
“This facility is the result of years of hard work and dedication from many people. It represents a major investment in the future of football in Freshford and will provide opportunities for players of all ages for many years to come,” he said.
He paid tribute to the many volunteers, sponsors, funding partners and community supporters who helped make the project a reality. Special acknowledgement was given to Cllr Michael Mccarty,Kilkenny county council , Kevin Staunton Lenztech Engineering, PST Sport and Marnell Groundworks for their contribution to the successful completion of the development.
The opening of the new facility marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Freshford Town AFC as the club continues to strengthen its role in the local and wider kilkenny community and provide first-class facilities for future generations.
