Cllr Dollard’s response to Ring Road funding

Cllr Maria Dollard

“I am happy to see the progress on the Ring Road by Kilkenny County Council

Although it was disappointing to see no funding application go to the Department in 2023, a funding application and the relevant documentation and reports were finalised in 2024, clearing the way for the approval of this very welcome funding of €200,000 for the next stage of the plan.

The initial plan was overturned by the CJEU in 2018 due to inadequate environmental reports and huge and costly lessons were learned that have impacted all local authorities and most of all the people who are dependent on these critical infrastructure projects being delivered. We won’t make the same mistakes again I hope and I am delighted that the necessary resources have now been allocated by Kilkenny County Council to see this project through.

The people of Kennyswell, Stephen Street, Granges Road and Irishtown have already suffered enough. It is well past the time to get this project done and get HGV’s off our streets”
