There was wonderful art on display around Thomastown, thanks to the excellent work of ‘Thomastown Creative Arts Festival (TCAF). It was also good to note a production of The Quiet Land by Lake Productions over a two night period. ( review to follow)

The festival was formally opened by Senator Malcolm Noonan in the beautiful surroundings of the Watergarden where he spoke of the key factors that make up a vibrant town like Thomastown.  “Certainly when we look to the town’s medieval and Norman heritage, townsfolk can be proud that much of this heritage is retained and respected and forms the backdrop of this festival. It is however the people who down the centuries and even in recent years who found a home here, that make this place vibrant. Culture is such a vital part of the workings of a town and Thomastown is steeped in it. It is this unique backdrop of a compact heritage town that will take visitors on a tour as they absorb the creativity of TCAF.”, said Malcolm. The Senator said that the new library was a welcome addition to the trail and will serve the community well for decades to come just as it’s predecessor did. Senator Noonan also paid tribute to the late Cat Dowling; performer, composer and musician from Kilkenny whose dad Dick Dowling had served the people of Kilkenny. He said that Cat was a real innovator who garnered respect across the music scene in Ireland and internationally.

Reports from the Thomastown area said that the festival was hugely successful.
