As communities across the globe celebrate World Environment Day 2026, Keep Kilkenny Beautiful (KKB) is highlighting the important role local action plays in restoring nature, protecting biodiversity, and building a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
For many years, Keep Kilkenny Beautiful has worked with volunteers, residents, schools, businesses and community groups to enhance the local environment through litter management, planting initiatives, biodiversity projects and public awareness campaigns. These efforts contribute to cleaner streets, healthier habitats and more attractive neighbourhoods throughout Kilkenny.
Nature restoration remains at the heart of KKB’s work. Through tree planting, pollinator-friendly projects, habitat protection and community gardening initiatives, the group is helping to create spaces where wildlife can thrive while improving the wellbeing of local residents. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier and more resilient environment.
In addition to environmental improvement projects, KKB is helping households and community organisations reduce carbon emissions and lower energy costs through the Keep Kilkenny Beautiful Sustainable Energy Community (SEC). The SEC supports residents in understanding energy efficiency measures, accessing expert advice and exploring opportunities for home energy upgrades and renewable energy solutions.
By reducing energy consumption, families can not only cut their carbon footprint but also achieve significant savings on household energy bills. This demonstrates that climate action can deliver both environmental and economic benefits for local communities.
On World Environment Day 2026, Keep Kilkenny Beautiful encourages everyone to get involved in protecting and restoring the environment. Whether through volunteering, reducing waste, supporting biodiversity, or improving energy efficiency at home, collective local action can make a meaningful difference.
A Spokesperson for KKB said, “Keep Kilkenny Beautiful have a track record in leadership on climate and nature issues, which form the basis of the modern competition. We continue to attract volunteers from all backgrounds and ages and form partnerships with individuals and groups across Kilkenny. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Kilkenny for current and future generations.”
