The black and amber roar to be heard on ‘up for the match’ on Saturday night

Proud Dunamaggin man Sean Carroll who will be appearing on ‘Up for the match’ on Saturday with his song ‘The Black and Amber Roar’

Dunnamaggin can be traced back to at least the14th century , where churches, high crosses, a castle and river played important roles in the history of this almost 300 acre townsland.

For those who do not need to reflect on the history side of things, then suffice to say that Dunamaggin is a beautiful spot.

When it comes to the serious stuff, Dunnamaggin has featured on the GAA front in recent years

Our senior panel benefitted from mighty players such as Canice and Noel Hickey, David Herity, Willie Phelan and Michael Cody. Great ambassadors no doubt.

More recently, players like Denis Walsh, Joe Fitzpatrick and Andy Hickey lined out in the Under 20 All Ireland in Thurles when they defeated Limerick to claim the James Nowlan trophy.

Another man who is currently flying the Dunnamaggin flag is Sean Carroll.

He will admit himself that although he hasn’t made the team, he takes great pride in being on the panel.

And he sees the funny side of it also. So much so that he released a song last year entitled Super Sub.

Sean is a singer songwriter who is currently studying Sound Engineering and radio production at Waterford College of further education.

It is a path he is enjoying and is hopeful that his future career lies in this field.

Although only taking up the guitar and singing three years ago , Sean has made somewhat of a name for himself in the music arena.

And if social media is anything to go by then he seems to be flavour of the month.

Sean has built a following around Ireland and has over 46,000 followers with nearly 2 million likes on his Tik tok page.

His work includes hurling comedy sketches, singing all kinds of songs as well as poetry.

One of his most viewed videos is a poem which he wrote about Croke park.

His new song “The black & amber roar” is out now on all musical platforms online such as Spotify

And that, as they say is good going in any man’s language.

Seans latest song ‘The Black and amber Roar’ has taken social media by storm.

It would appear that Sean’s song made its way to the powers that be in RTE also.

So much so that the national broadcaster contacted him and invited him to sing his song on ‘Up for the match’ this Saturday night.

Sean was thrilled to get the call. “To be honest I have always looked at that programme from the time I was a young lad, and wondered would I ever the chance to perform on it. And now my dream is about to come through”.

What makes it even sweeter is that Sean has been asked to get a choir of youngsters from Dunamaggin to join him in the song and so when the cameras roll for ‘Up for the match’ on Saturday, ten children from the Dunamaggin primary school will be belting out the song.

Pride of the parish personified.

And if you feel like singing along we enclose the lyrics.

– THE BLACK AND AMBER ROAR – Sean Carroll

First verse:
Making our way down Jones’s road,
Can’t you hear the black and amber roar?
It’s louder than it’s been before, (before, before)

The cats are back in town,
We’re coming back to take our crown,
Liam McCarthy is coming back to the marble city…

Chorus:
But once upon a time,
You could hear the black and amber cry,
You know hurling is our life,
And I’d do anything to see the boys over the line.

And my heart explodes with pride,
And it sends shivers down my spine,
So enough is enough, tonight we’re going to take the cup for the 37th time.

Second verse:
I want the whole world to witness,
The black and amber cry, a team full of greatness
Out on the field of play..

And taking a trip to the parade,
And looking at the castle it always looks great,
We’re on the doorstep of history..

Chorus:
But once upon a time,
You could hear the black and amber cry,
You know hurling is our life,
And I’d do anything to see the boys over the line.

And my heart explodes with pride,
And it sends shivers down my spine,
So enough is enough, tonight we’re going to take the cup for the 37th time.

Chorus
But once upon a time,
You could hear the black and amber cry,
You know hurling is our life,
And I’d do anything to see the boys over the line.
2nd part of chorus:
And my heart explodes with pride,
And it sends shivers down my spine,
So enough is enough, tonight we’re going to take the cup for the 37th time.

Finish out:
Making our way downJones’s road,
Can’t you hear the black and amber roar?
