SINGOUT – SINGING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND

SINGOUT is an exciting opportunity for primary school children in Kilkenny. In the six weeks leading up to Christmas children from primary schools in Kilkenny have been preparing a programme of festive songs with musician educators Barbara Kelly and Clare Kilkenny. Barbara and Clare deliver workshops in the schools each week preparing the children with musical games, body percussion and songs. It gives the children the opportunity to connect through singing and to come together through the sphere of meaningful music making.

Joining them onstage will be young musicians from the Creative Music Space as well as young string musicians from St. Kieran’s NS, Johnstown and Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Clontubrid. This programme of whole class violin began just after the pandemic. It has gone from strength to strength, with children learning violin from 3rd – 6th class, led by musician educator Andreea Bouros. The children are looking forward to performing in St. Canice’s Cathedral and for many it will be their first time performing in public.

Speaking about the workshops and concert Music Development Officer with Music Generation Kilkenny Sinéad Blanchfield said “The SINGOUT concert was a great success last year with a sold-out concert in St. Canice’s Cathedral. Singing together is so important for Childrens’ wellbeing and I’m delighted to bring this opportunity to young people in Kilkenny again this year. Children from primary schools taking part in SINGOUT will have the opportunity to sing together on-stage as one voice in the beautiful surroundings of St. Canice’s Cathedral. This is a special moment in the context of our collective journey this year.”

Niall Bergin, principal of CBS Primary School said, “we are delighted to have Music Generation Kilkenny working with our school. It is fantastic to see our pupils develop their musical talents and learn how to play a musical instrument. The tutors, Paul and Tom, have developed a great rapport with our classes and deliver the lessons in a fun and engaging way on a weekly basis. Our 4th class pupils are also taking part in the Music Generation Kilkenny ‘SINGOUT’ Concert in St. Canice’s Cathedral. Pupils have been preparing diligently with their teachers and with Music Generation Kilkenny tutors, Clare and Barbara. We look forward to seeing the boys perform in SINGOUT on the 15th of December “

St. Canice’s Cathedral is a magnificent concert venue. Music Generation Kilkenny is delighted to partner with St. Canice’s Cathedral to bring the children and young people from our programmes to public attention in this wonderful setting. We hope that people in Kilkenny will come out and join the children in song and support our emerging young Kilkenny talent.
