Kilkenny County Council launches second round of the Night Time Economy Diversification funding scheme

Kilkenny County Council is once again seeking proposals from local businesses, community groups, event organisers, collaborators and individuals to develop projects that will support the growth and diversity of the night time economy in Kilkenny City. This call will focus on events that will take place in September, October & November. The first round of the scheme was very successful with 21 organisations supported to stage nearly 80 events for June, July and August.

Mayor of Kilkenny Municipal District , Cllr Andrew McGuinness, said

Call 1 of this funding scheme was a great success. This fund is supporting a number of really innovative and interesting events that are taking place over the summer and which are encouraging residents of the city and county to experience the night time economy in the earlier part of the week. It is also an opportunity for many of the tourists to sample the Kilkenny City nightlife in a varied way which is supporting local businesses and organisations.

Night Time Economy Advisor for Kilkenny City, Conor Sweeney, is encouraging applicants to put forward proposals that can be sustainable in the longer term.

“The quantity and quality of applications under Call 1 demonstrated the level of interest there is in Kilkenny City to enhance its offering and embrace its status as a pilot city for the Night Time Economy. Equally, the demand for these events have been quite strong from the public to date. I am encouraging applicants for this round of funding to put forward proposals that they wish to trial during the Autumn and Winter months with the support of funding but which could become embedded within their calendar of events in the longer term”

Call 2 will support events that take place in Kilkenny City between Sundays and Thursdays after 6pm. Events must take place between 1st September and 28th November. A minimum grant of €500 and a maximum grant of €3,000 will be available to successful applicants.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 9th August. All events supported under the Night Time Economy Diversification fund are listed on The Kilkenny App.
