Why am I so tired all the time?

By Clair Whitty

I GET asked this quite a lot. There are a number of reasons why you could be tired or fatigued and knowing the cause will help you find the best solution.
Taking a look at what you eat is the place to start. Without a healthy diet you won’t have the nutrients, the fuel, required for energy production.
Aim for a diet that’s balanced with a wide variety of foods according to your lifestyle choice.
Then you could top up on any nutrients that you may be lacking.
For example, if you’re vegetarian, or vegan are you getting enough protein, iron, and B12?
If you don’t eat enough vegetables especially green ones you may need some extra magnesium.

Common cause
Consider an Omega oil supplement if you don’t eat oily fish, salad oils, or nuts and seeds.
Low B12 is a common cause of tiredness. The best food sources of B12 are animal products.
Nutritional yeast added to food is a good food source of B12 for vegetarian or vegan diets.
Solgar B12 nuggets contain an easily absorbable form of B12 to help normalise levels so that you feel more energised.
Low iron is a common cause of tiredness especially if you don’t eat red meat.
Try Salus Floradix Liquid Iron it’s one of my favourite iron supplements.
Food intolerance is a common cause of fatigue. Eating foods that your body doesn’t want will affect digestion, immunity, and energy production.
Lack of sleep is a major cause of tiredness we can all relate to.

Feeling exhausted
If we don’t get a good night’s sleep it can leave you feeling exhausted and less able to cope with the demands of a busy day.
Stress, don’t get me started. This causes so much tiredness it’s unbelievable. Take a look at Stressed it contains Ashwagandha.
This herb is classed as an adaptogen, which means that it can help the body to adapt itself so that it can deal with stress more effectively.
Control the stress, control your energy levels.
